The Legacy of Rev. J.P. Walker

The Late Rev.J. P. Walker, Pastor Emeritus

Pastor J.P. Walker was a native of Canton, Mississippi and the son of the late Jessie Walker, Sr. and Willie Lee Walker. He attended Canton Public Schools and the Mississippi Baptist Seminary. Pastor Walker had been an ordained minister since 1975. He accepted his call to the ministry in 1974 and preached his first sermon at his home church, New Bethel M.B.Church.

Pastor Walker served as Pastor of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church from 1995-2020, where he oversaw over 400+ members. Under his leadership, the New Bethel Church family experienced an enormous growth. Some of his many accomplishments at New Bethel as Pastor included ordaining fourteen(14) deacons, annual health screenings, annual church outings, back-to-school rallies, new membership orientation class, outreach ministry, transportation ministry, major renovations to the existing sanctuary, an Educational Center, parking lot additions, annual clean-ups in the church community and full-time worship service. Pastor Walker, led by the spirit of God, led the efforts of the New Bethel Church family to build a Family Life Center to the church.

Pastor Walker was a member of the General Missionary Baptist State Convention of Mississippi and the Madison County Baptist Association. He married Lady Floridia Williams Walker and was the proud father of their three sons, Dennis, James and Pastor Frederick. He was also the proud grandfather of fourteen (14) grandchildren.

Of his many accomplishments and community involvement, the most important aspect of his life was that he was a true servant anointed by God to preach the gospel. His goal was to continue to touch souls within the church and community by “Reaching the Lost At Any Cost”.
